Ms. Pearson was appointed by Governor Sanford in December 2006 to fill the unexpired term of the former Treasurer and, in November 2008, was elected to a four-year term.

Ms. Pearson is married to Chuck Pearson and they have two sons and three grandchildren.  Mary has been active in community service in Dorchester County for over 30 years.  She helped to get the Ashley River Fire District established and served as the Treasurer for ten years. Ms. Pearson is on the Board of Directors for the SC Association of Countywide Elected Executives (SCACEE) and is the recipient of their 2008 Service Excellence Award.  Mary is a member of the SC Association of Auditors, Treasurers, and Tax Collectors (SCATT), SC Association of Counties (SCAC), and the SC Association of Assessing Officials (SCAAO).

Ms. Pearson's other accomplishments include:

  • President of the Archdale Civic Association and worked with state legislators to get the much needed stop light at the entrance to the Archdale Subdivision
  • Founding member of the Adopt-A- Highway program in Dorchester County, serving as the volunteer county coordinator for 2 years and currently participates with a local group who has adopted a mile of road in Summerville
  • Member of the SC Federation of Republican Women and was honored with the distinction of “Woman of the Year” in 2005
  • Served as Governor Sanford’s appointee to the I-95 Corridor Blue Ribbon Study Committee for Economic Development in 2006
  • Lifetime member of the Upper Dorchester County Historical Society
